Pop superstar Beyoncé had been performing to a 30,000-strong audience, but the night ended in terror when police had to open fire on teenagers who had been shooting at people waiting for taxis to get home.
The 29-year-old pop star was not hurt in the incident, and there were no serious injuries.
Beyonce has been in the country for the past week shooting the new video for her and Alicia Keys’ forthcoming single ‘Put It In A Love Song’ and to perform a handful of concerts.
The singer spent much of yesterday sightseeing in Rio de Janeiro and visited the city’s famous Chris The Redeemer statue.
However, she was mobbed by other tourists as she tried to catch a glimpse of the 130ft landmark.
Beyoncé had planned to stay in Rio de Janeiro for this weekend’s carnival, but will be jetting into the UK next week for the BRIT Awards.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé Knowles have ranked No. 1 on Forbes’s list of top-earning celebrity couples.
Between them, the husband and wife took in $122 million in the 12 months to June 2009.
They were followed by Harrison Ford and his girlfriend, Calista Flockhart, who raked in $69 million, and Brangelina, with $55 million.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith came in at at No. 4 with $48 million, while David and Victoria Beckham earned $46 million to rank at No. 5, the magazine said on Tuesday.
Next in line are Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi; Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson; Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy; Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes; and Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow.
It’s nothing but the best for Jay-Z: The music mogul celebrated his 40th birthday in style last week – thanks to his wife, Beyoncé.
The Grammy-nominated singer planned a star-studded surprise party for her hubby and invited 50 of his closest pals, including Diddy, Kate Hudson, A-Rod, Kanye West and Alicia Keys.
DJ Cassidy spun tunes at the bash held at the Casa de Campo resort in the Dominican Republic. The party, which had a 1940s theme, included a fireworks show and two dance floors.
At the fete, Jay-Z and Keys sang an impromptu version of their hit song, “Empire State of Mind,” and West gave a toast to his friend, the birthday boy.
According to recently released ratings data, ‘Beyonce: I AM… Yours’ drew some 5.1 million viewers during its broadcast on ABC Thanksgiving night (Thursday, November 26).
Featuring footage from Beyonce’s four night stint at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas, ‘Beyonce: I AM Yours’ depicted the singer (for the first time) working hand in hand with producers, musicians and others associated with putting her celebrated “I AM…” World Tour together.
‘Beyonce: I AM… YOURS” also featured performances of songs like “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and photos from the former Destiny’s Child singer’s childhood.
Everyone seems to be loving Beyoncé lately! Crazy in Love was voted song of the decade, and Billboard called Beyoncé artist of the year!
Why Beyoncé? Why this stunning 28-year-old singer/performer/actress/businesswoman from Texas now married to one of the decade’s other biggest stars, and worth something like $87m a year to boot, and not, well, take your pick…? Because she made not one but two of the decade’s greatest singles, with Crazy in Love and Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), not to mention her hits with Destiny’s Child; and this was the decade when singles – particularly R&B singles – regained their status as pop’s favourite medium. (But her three solo albums? Pretty fabulous, too.)
Because at a time when the ubiquity of TV talent shows put the onus on those who could cut it live more than ever, she and not any superannuated rock star was arguably the greatest live performer of the past 10 years.
Because her achievements chime with bigger narratives. Who was it got to sing for President Obama and Michelle at their first dance after his inauguration, after all?
Because she is a brand, but says she isn’t, and because in this age of Twitter and the paparazzi, she might be a global phenomenon but in the course of 10 full years Mrs Jay-Z, as she might also be known, has kept her mystery. And because – just possibly – she helped introduce a new word into the Oxford English Dictionary: bootylicious.

P.S Sorry for not updating these past few days. I had some things to take care of in real life. However, things should be back to normal from now on!
The £20,309,747 haul came at the end of the Friday evening programme that also featured performances from Peter Andre, Stereophonics and Alison Moyet.
BBC newsreaders performed Beyonce’s hits Crazy In Love and Single Ladies during the seven-hour spectacular.
Bringing the 30th Children in Need appeal to a close, Terry Wogan, flanked by co-hosts Alesha Dixon and Tess Daly, urged Britons to help beat last year’s record-breaking £38 million total when more than £21 million was raised on the night.
The veteran broadcaster said: “Another fantastic fundraising effort. We didn’t get quite to £21 million but we got pretty close.
“By the time we give you the full total in a couple of months’ time I bet it’s got to be pretty close to what we made last year.”
This is surprising! Have you ever seen this? According to this new article, average people are going around wearing the glove, similar to what Beyoncé has for Sasha Fierce. I wonder where people are getting these, because I want one!
“I said we should use titanium because it weighs, like, nothing, compared to gold or silver. We actually did a mold of her hand in wax and it was a pretty incredible experience. At first, people didn’t understand it and now I’ve gone to restaurants and I see people wearing knockoff versions.”
Rachel Adedeji and Stacey Solomon perform songs from Bey! At Last isn’t hers. but it sounds like Beyoncé’s rendition of it! I think they did really well, considering Bey’s songs are really hard to sing. I’ve added the performances below
