Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on January 26 to protect baby Blue Ivy Carter’s name, according to the Washington Post. The superstar parents want to reserve it for a future line of baby carriages, baby cosmetics, and diaper bags.
While this all seems a bit ridiculous, several individuals have already submitted their own applications for the name! Fashion designer Joseph Mbeh requested “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” just four days after the baby was born, and another applicant filed on January 20 for “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” to use for a line of fragrances. The trademark office has denied both applications, stating that the name belonged to a “very famous infant ” and consumers may falsely assume that the products were approved by the celebrity parents.
Although Jay-Z was nominated at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, he and wife Beyonce sat out the proceedings attended by peers like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Adele and others.
Instead, Beyonce, 30, and Jay-Z (whose real name is Shawn Carter), 42, took a Maybach from their home in downtown Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood to the cute Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn — where they tucked into pizza at their favorite posh pizzeria, Lucali.
Leaving 1-month-old daughter Blue Ivy at home, the music power couple “were just like a regular couple talking and whatnot,” a witness tells Us Weekly, adding that other patrons failed to notice them. “They were sitting in front of the place closer to where they make the pizza.”
That’s right! The first ever photo’s of Blue Ivy Carter have been released by Beyonce & Jay-Z to the public. I have added 6 HQ photo’s into the gallery.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s newborn daughter Blue Ivy is already charming all the right people, including her grandma.
“She’s doing great,” a beaming Tina Knowles told PEOPLE at the Runway to Win fundraising reception for Barack Obama in New York. “She’s beautiful.”
As for her duties as a doting grandma, Knowles calls them “amazing,” adding, “It’s the second best job I’ve ever had.”
Although her adoration for the new addition to her family was certainly instantaneous, Knowles is waiting to decide which parent little Blue resembles most.
“She’s only a month old,” she says. “So we have to give her a minute.”
Tina wasn’t the only Knowles out and about this week. Beyoncé stepped out two nights in a row to support husband Jay-Z, who performed a pair of shows at Carnegie Hall.
Beyoncé steps out tonight to attend the first of two shows JAY-Z will perform at Carnegie Hall to benefit United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. This is the first time the new mom has been seen in public since giving birth to her daughter, Blue, last month. I have added 6 HQ photo’s into the gallery.
So, if you thought that Beyonce was done with this era, well think again. Apparently there is something big coming up with Beyonce’s song “I Was Here.” I guess we will have to wait & see. I wonder if it has anything to do with baby Blue?
Beyoncé Knowles is been courted to join the US X Factor judging panel, according to reports. The TV talent show’s judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, along with host Steve Jones, were recently axed in a massive shake up of the programme.
Simon is now keen to get some big names on board including Beyoncé and Mariah Carey. The Chicago Sun-Times claims that Simon is eyeing up the superstars after seeing the weight that musicians Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have added to rival show American Idol.
“Simon wants nothing but the best for the X Factor,” a show insider added to British newspaper The Mirror. Simon is returning to the judging panel for the second series of the singing show with music producer L.A. Reid.
Beyonce has the dubious honor of inspiring the scientific name for a rare species of fly.
Researchers in Australia have renamed a breed of horse-fly after the Crazy In Love superstar, who welcomed a daughter, Blue Ivy, on Saturday (07Jan12). The creature, which was first discovered in the year of the star’s birth, 1981, will now be called Scaptia (Plinthina) Beyonceae.
Scientists claim they decided on the name after the insect’s golden hair reminded them of Beyonce.
Bryan Lessard, from Australia’s science agency CSIRO, says, “It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly’s abdomen that led me to name this fly in honour of the performer Beyonce as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species.”
If you guessed that Baby Carter would grow up to be a star because of her ubiquitous, famous parents, you were probably right. If you anticipated her first song being released in her tweens, a la Willow Smith, you were dead wrong.
Try within hours of her birth.
Blue Ivy Carter, the bundle of joy brought into the world by megastar Beyoncé (with a little help from fellow famous dad Jay-Z) Saturday (Jan. 7), becomes the youngest person ever credited with gracing a Billboard chart, as Jay-Z’s newly-recorded studio cut “Glory” — officially billed as “featuring B.I.C.,” an abbreviation of Blue Ivy Carter — begins on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at No. 74. (For historical purposes, this week’s Billboard charts are dated Jan. 21).
